Roll Form Tooling & Manufacture for Tube Mills
NT Precision can provide you with state of the art roll form tooling design and manufacture – we are also specialists in the design and manufacture of tooling and components suitable for Mckenica* welded tube mills.
We have a wealth of in house experience running tube mills. Our design work - developed from forming theory, is suitable for a wide range of tube mill configurations. Precision tooling is used for both welded and open section tube mills forming strip material in Aluminium, Brass, Steel and Stainless Steel.
As well as supplying complete tooling sets, NT Precision often design and supply single roll pairs & partial sets of tooling to work with existing tooling.
NT Precision’s roll form tooling is manufactured from a range of materials developed specifically to customer needs:
- D2 Tool Steel to a hardness of Rc 60 – 62 - for standard forming applications.
- Sintered Tool Steel to a hardness of Rc 60 – 62 - NT Precision have sourced this superior grade of Sintered steel with advantages of wear resistance and 4 – 8 times tooling life increase. As hard as D2 but with a far denser structure, it improves product surface finish and has greater resistance to pick up of the strip material.
Recommended for high usage product tooling as it minimises regrind costs, or for specific high wear areas of a tube mill, typically fin pass rolls, final sizing rolls and cut off dies.
- Tungsten Carbide – Used for complete rolls for high wear applications and in heavy walled tube welding rolls when welding non ferrous materials (prevents over heating by High Frequency induction). Also used inside D2 roll tyres and as die inserts – an effective enhancement to standard D2 tooling. Greatly increases tooling life and minimises the risk of damage to the Tungsten Carbide.
- Ceramic – Creates superior wear properties compared to either Sintered steels or Carbide when manufacturing complete rolls. Commonly used for precision thin walled tube manufacture and increasingly used by heavier walled tube manufactures looking for benefits in lower energy running costs and fewer regrinds. Ceramic has the advantages of wear resistance, reduced welder power and greater weld bead control.
- Aluminium Bronze – Where surface finish is critical and /or the rolls must be run “totally” free from mill coolants, NT Precision’s specialist Aluminium Bronze tooling is a proven success.
